Over the years I have come to realise some of my biggest flaws, along with my talents, these both come hand in hand, because without a flaw there is nothing to work on, especially when it comes to drawing. Through my years of drawing I have come to realise that one of my flaws is wanting to put more time into drawings than what is needed. I focus too much on perfection and so everything takes a lot longer than need be when it comes to drawing something quickly.

This can be seen in my attempt at drawing a dragon, on Photoshop, the image to the right. The longer I spent on the wings the better the appearance of them compared to getting all of the dragon to look just as good. This was because more time overall was spent on the wings than the rest of the skeleton layer. The main body of the dragon was rushed before even getting it's details put in, and due to the haste in drawing the proportions are not all to scale and would need to be readjusted accordingly. Another flaw, is proportion scaling, at times depending on how I start any drawing there will always be a part slightly out of proportion, at other times it can be seen dramatically. Unproportioned drawings always look slightly off and is it can be hard to tell which part of the drawing is out of proportion. This can be due to not having the right tools and pieces of equipment to be able to draw the proportions correctly, or it is a simple lack time management as it is usually rushed, instead of taking a step back and taking my time with it.

Talents can be some of the hardest thing for a person to realise on their own. Having support and feedback helps an artist be able to recognise where their strengths are. Through most of my drawings I have noticed that I have become really good at drawing dragons, snakes, reptiles in general. I noticed this mainly thanks to my tutor as he had seen a few pictures of some dragons and snakes I had drew, and pointed out how well I can make the scales seem to be. After showing these pieces of art to others in my classroom as well as friends and family I was soon told very similar things. It takes having someone else to notice your talents for you to be able to realise what they are and become proud of having and work hard to improve that talent further as well as practice the flaws that need to be improved upon. Once you realise what you can work on and improve over all your skill level in your artwork will be clearly shown, and should always be something to strive for. Even if you just enjoy drawing for fun!
